I Tried These 15 Self Care Routine Hacks For a Week—Here’s How It Changed My Life!

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, Self-care is a necessity not a luxury. Nevertheless the majority of us approach it as an afterthought hoping that a five-minute break and a sheet mask will suffice. However true self care routine involves developing internal-nourishing habits.

I set boundaries and was deliberate about who I spent time with and I dedicated a week to a self care routine that emphasized movement, mindfulness hydration and high-quality ingredients. Spoiler alert: Everything has changed. I tried these things and I think you should too.

Hydrate Like Your Skin Depends on It—Because It Does

It wasn’t until I actually started tracking it that I realized I was drinking enough water. I was only meeting half of my body’s requirements, it turned out. I therefore increased my consumption to at least 2. 5 to 5 liters per day drinking a full glass first thing in the morning. And the outcome? Those mid-afternoon headaches vanished, my skin appeared more hydrated and my energy levels remained consistent. It really helps if you have trouble staying hydrated. Try making it more fun by adding slices of cucumber or lemon.

First Things Workout—Your Body and Mind Will Appreciate it

If you put off working out until the end of the day it’s likely that life (or fatigue) will interfere. In order to change things up I began moving my body as soon as I woke up. On some days it was a vigorous walk, a full workout or a quick 10-minute yoga flow. It woke me up and gave me a good start to the rest of the day. Plus post-workout coffee just hits different.

Meditate—Even If You Think You Can’t

At meditation I used to roll my eyes. After just a few days of making a commitment to five minutes of stillness and deep breathing I realized how much more focused and at ease I felt—who has time to sit in silence? The key? Don’t overcomplicate it. Breathe, sit and close your eyes. It’s okay if your thoughts stray just bring them back. Think of it as a workout for your brain.

Honey Is a Healing Superfood—Use It Daily

I’ve always enjoyed honey in my tea but I had no idea how beneficial it is for skin immunity and gut health. My digestion significantly improved when I took a spoonful of raw honey every morning or mixed it with warm water. Apply a thin layer and rinse off after 10 minutes for instantly softer skin. It also works well as a face mask.

Boundaries Are Your Right, Not a Luxury

I had to remind myself all the time that saying no is a self care routine. I stopped accepting invitations that made me feel overburdened, fiercely guarded my time and stopped overcommitting. The world didn’t end, you know that. Prioritizing yourself isn’t selfish—it’s necessary.

Be Selective About the People You Spend Time With

Energy spreads easily and the people you spend time with have an effect on your wellbeing. I started limiting my time with people who were draining me after taking a close look at my relationships. Rather I concentrated on the people who inspired and encouraged me. As a result I felt much lighter, happier and more at ease overall.

Keep Skincare Simple—Less Is More

I soon discovered that simplicity is essential even though I used to believe I needed a million products to make my skin look nice. My skin flourished when I reduced my regimen to a mild cleanser hydrating serum moisturizer and sunscreen. If you’re overwhelmed by skincare, start by focusing on hydration and sun protection. The rest is extra.

Repeat a Daily Affirmation—It Works

Affirmations didn’t seem real to me until I actually began saying them aloud each morning. Something about hearing positive words directed at yourself changes your mindset. I chose the straightforward statement I deserve happiness, success and love. . And believe me it had an impact. Try it.

Be a Nice Person—It’s Good for Your Skin

I realize that this seems arbitrary. Your skin is more affected by stress and negativity than you may realize. According to studies kindness lowers stress hormones maintaining a healthier appearance of your skin. I therefore tried to be kind to others, offer assistance when I could and put kindness ahead of pettiness. Perhaps it was just my imagination but it felt good and my skin did seem to glow more.

Incorporate Olive Oil—Your Body Will Appreciate It

Olive oil is a secret of beauty not just for cooking. I started drizzling extra virgin olive oil over my meals every day and even used it as a cuticle oil and hair mask. Because it’s full of healthy fats and antioxidants my skin feels softer and my hair looks glossier. Bonus: It’s also very good for digestion.

Focus on Quality—It’s Worth It

When it comes to food skincare and apparel, choosing quality over quantity is crucial. I decluttered things that didn’t add value to my life, replaced processed snacks with whole foods and bought a nice pair of pajamas because seriously, why not sleep in luxury? The lesson? Your general health condition becomes better when you surround yourself with superior quality things. Every day requires the use of sunscreen without any exceptions.

Wear Sunscreen Daily—No Excuses

Even on days with clouds. Even indoors. When I didn’t spend a lot of time outside I used to ignore it but after realizing how much UV damage occurs every day I made a commitment to wearing SPF 50 every morning. I’ll be grateful in the future.

Transform Your Showering Habits into a Spa-Like Experience

Showers are a daily necessity but turning them into a luxurious self care routine is a game-changer. I swapped my usual quick rinse for an aromatherapy shower with eucalyptus steam, a body scrub and a hydrating body oil. To create a really soothing atmosphere I even turned down the lights and played some soothing music. As a result I felt as though I had just departed from a five-star spa. Try it, you wont regret it.

Invest in High-Quality Sleep Essentials

Although sleep is the cornerstone of self care routine I had no idea how much better my sleep could be with a few simple upgrades. I swapped my old pillows for silk pillowcases, a weighted blanket and a lavender-scented sleep mist—and let me tell you I have never slept better. A combination of correct mattress purchase coupled with breathable bedding and a consistent evening routine will result in refreshing morning outcomes and facial brightness thanks to your investment.

Increase Your Consumption of Collagen for Healthy Skin Hair and Joints

For joints, hair and skin to remain healthy, collagen is necessary. Whether you use it in coffee, water or smoothies, collagen powder can help support skin elasticity, lessen wrinkles and encourage stronger hair and nails. You can take natural collagen from Citrus fruits, berries, bone broth and leafy greens like spinach can all naturally increase collagen.
